Debunking Those Plumbing Myths

1. Hand Soap Is Sufficient To Clean Plumbing Fixtures

Despite how harmless hand soap might seem, some types of plumbing fixtures can be damaging to the surface. An acquaintance from the company house cleaning brandon once told me of a non evasive cleaning tip. For example, brass plumbing fixtures should only be cleaned with things such as lemons and baking soda. That is gentle on the fixtures and safe for them.

2. Using Lemons To Clean The Garbage Disposal

People may have heard that if you throw a lemon rind through your garbage disposal it cleans it. Well that is not exactly the case. It may make it smell better but it doesn’t have to properties to properly clean it. In order to disinfect the garbage disposal you can use something as simple as mild soap and warm water. BUT WAIT. Before you go on to cleaning your disposal you must make sure you disconnect the disposal from its power source. After that you can put your cleaning solution down the disposal, let it sit for a few minutes then you can use a brush to give it a good scrub.

3. Anything Can Be Put Down The Garbage Disposal If Accompanied By Water

A lot of people might think that if they run water at the same time as they put things in their disposal it makes it magically okay. However the truth of the matter is that not everything belongs down the disposal no matter how much water you may run. Items such as banana peel, eggshells or hard and thick food items can damage the disposal which can cause you many problems. Doing this may require that your garbage disposal needs professional cleaning or even need repair service. A smart alternative would be to cut up those hard thick food pieces and put them in with water slowly, making it easier on your disposal to do its job.

4. There’s No Maintenance Needed For Plumbing Fixtures

Homeowners need to be aware that this is a very bad and dangerous misunderstanding. Lack of knowledge and understanding in this area can cause very serious consequences. There needs to be inspections of the sewer clean outs checking for obstructions. Like previously mentioned, the fixtures inside the house also require the regular cleaning and care to avoid serious clogs and the even more serious plumber bill.

5. If Everything Goes Down There Is No Clogs

You may be at risk of a serious clog in your garbage disposal all the while its working. If you find that the disposal is moving at a slower pace then it usually does. That could be an early warning sign that there could be future issues. Another warning sign is that after using the disposal there is still pieces of food that gets left behind. If you notice either of those issues its best to immediately stop using it until its fixed or unclogged and working at its normal level.
